The University of Texas at Austin celebrated its 2023 Staff Service and Outstanding Staff and Supervisor Award recipients on Monday, April 10, 2023.
The Outstanding Staff and Supervisor Awards Program honors invaluable contributions of eligible non-teaching employees whose outstanding dedication, competence, conscientious performance, excellent customer service, or ingenuity/innovation has had a significant impact on the university.
Four employees from Campus Construction and Facilities Services were honored with Outstanding Staff and Supervisor Awards. Recipients each received certificates and a $1,500 honorarium.
Joan Dilley, Landscape Services Crew Leader
Joan received an Outstanding Staff Award for working collaboratively with her team on larger-scale landscape projects, pro-actively reporting problems, and caring about the positive impact the landscape has on staff whose work keeps them mainly indoors with the occasional stroll to see what's blooming on any given day.
Shannon Hanney, Associate Director of Construction Services
Shannon received an Outstanding Supervisor Award for promoting an environment of collaborative support where employees are encouraged to share different perspectives to increase service efficiency and for promoting and mentoring his staff.
Jim Carse, Manager of Landscape Services
Jim received an Outstanding Supervisor Award for giving his supervisors freedom to lead, showing appreciation for his staff and their work, and providing daily examples and encouragement to promote positive relationships and collaboration between his department and others across the university.
Charles King, Building Attendant Leader
Charles received an Outstanding Supervisor Award for proactive and outstanding customer service skills, for his oversight, care and delivery of all official UT linens, and for facilitating an integral part of commencements and events where ceremonial UT Maces are presented.
In addition to the four staff and supervisor awards, a total of 94 employees from Business Strategies and Operations received staff service awards.
The Staff Service Awards program celebrates and recognizes the contributions of committed staff who are responsible for transforming lives for the benefit of society. Service awards are presented to university staff in recognition of length of service. Staff receive their first service award for 10 years of eligible service. Thereafter, service awards are presented in five-year intervals as eligible service accrues.
