Temporary Construction Notices

Partial Road Closure on Whitis Avenue: August 28 - November 14

A partial, temporary road closure on Whitis Avenue — extending from West Dean Keeton Street to 27th Street — will take place from Aug. 28 to Nov. 14. This closure is necessary to facilitate construction activity, including precast concrete panel deliveries and a crane relocation for the Whitis Court Residence Hall project.

Project Location:

The construction site is located on Whitis Avenue between West Dean Keeton Street and 27th Street.

Impacts to Campus Community

Pedestrian and ADA Access Impacts:

The west sidewalk along Whitis Avenue remains closed for the duration of construction. The east sidewalk will have periodic closures, but will remain open when possible. The east sidewalk on Whitis Avenue will be blocked at times to allow trucks to deliver and install precast concrete panels. While the crane and trucks are positioned on Whitis, the sidewalk will be closed intermittently for deliveries and related activities but will remain open most of the time.

Traffic Impacts:

Whitis Avenue will be blocked off to through traffic at the project site, which is located between West Dean Keeton Street and 27th Street.

Bicycle Impacts:

Bike routes located on the partial closure of Whitis Avenue will be closed. Cyclists are encouraged to use alternate routes during this period by referring to City of Austin Bike Map.

Parking Impacts:

The parking lot on the east side of Whitis Avenue will remain accessible but may be intermittently affected by deliveries and street closures.

Signage will be stationed at key locations to assist with wayfinding for traffic and pedestrians. Due to the fluid nature of construction, this information is subject to change, but we will do our best to provide timely communication if changes are necessary.

Travel Impacts on Whitis Avenue: May 12 - October 22

Construction materials will be delivered intermittently to the Whitis Court construction site, located on the west side of Whitis Avenue between Almetris Duren Hall and the G.B. Dealey Center for New Media, directly across from Kinsolving Residence Hall.

Deliveries are expected to begin May 12 through October 22.

At times, cranes and trucks will temporarily fully block Whitis Avenue to all vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists. Flaggers will direct traffic. All travelers can expect delays in this area while materials are being actively delivered.
