Temporary Construction Notices

Pedestrian, Bicycle, and Parking Impacts:

  • East-side pedestrian access on Whitis Avenue will be intermittently impacted during crane delivery. The west-side path is already blocked by construction fencing.
  • Cyclists may experience brief disruptions when the street and east-side sidewalks are blocked at alley and curb cut locations.
  • Street parking will be temporarily affected as the tractor/trailer may need to wait on Whitis Avenue for access into the site.

Project Summary: During this period, the WCR project will involve delivering and installing precast concrete panels. Initially, deliveries will enter via Whitis Avenue and access the site through a construction gate. Later in the phase, cranes and trucks will fully block Whitis Avenue to all vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists. Exact closure dates are still being finalized and will be shared once confirmed.

Project Location: The project site is located on the west side of Whitis Avenue between Almetris Duren Hall, GB Dealey, and across Whitis from Kinsolving Residence Hall.

Pedestrian, Travel and Bicycle Impacts:

  • The west sidewalk on Whitis Avenue will remain closed throughout construction, as noted in a separate advisory. The east sidewalk will be blocked intermittently during panel deliveries and crane operations but is expected to stay open most of the time.
  • While most impacts are centered on Whitis Avenue, its closure later in the project may lead to traffic backups on Dean Keeton and 27th Street, which serve bus routes. The closure will also affect access to several parking lots and service drives connected to Whitis.
  • Truck activity, flaggers, and the eventual closure of Whitis Avenue will impact north-south bicycle traffic.
  • Parking on the east side of Whitis will also be affected intermittently during deliveries and more significantly during the erection of the east wing.

This project will connect the new Whitis Court Residence Hall to water and wastewater utilities on Whitis Avenue, requiring excavation and temporary full-road closures at various points. Building access will remain available via alternate roads and sidewalks. The work will occur between the G.B. Dealey Building alley and Almetris Duren Hall.

Pedestrian, Bicycle, and Parking Impacts:
All of Whitis Avenue will be temporarily unavailable during excavation and utility work.

Project Description

Project Summary

The project entails constructing a new seven-story student housing facility for University Housing & Dining at the current LLA through the LLF buildings site on Whitis Avenue. The site will be fenced off all around, including the parking spaces along Whitis Avenue.

The Andres Construction trailers will be located on a portion of Lot 1 by the TSG garage.

Project Location: Buildings LLA through the LLF site of the existing Whitis Court across from Kinsolving.

Major anticipated outcomes/benefits/ of the completed project: This project will add 1,055 new student beds to University Housing & Dining.

The potholing aims to locate existing utilities for accurate connections by Andres Construction, supporting the future Whitis Court Residence Hall for University Housing & Dining (UHD).

Project Impacts

Pedestrian impact: The sidewalk along Whitis Avenue in front of the LLA through LLF Buildings will be closed throughout the project's duration. This work will affect pedestrian and vehicular traffic on Whitis Avenue. Barricades and flaggers will be in place to manage traffic and assist pedestrians.

Traffic impact: Southbound lane will be partially obstructed as the operation moves south to north on Whitis Avenue.

Bicycle impact: During the project, bicycle racks previously located in front of LLA through LLF will be temporarily removed, and the sidewalks in front of the LLA through LLF site will be inaccessible.

Parking Impact: The parking spaces in front of the LLA through the LLF Buildings will be unavailable. Whitis Avenue will maintain two lanes of traffic, although temporary lane closures may occur during construction. The Andres trailers will mainly affect the parking spaces and drive aisle of Lot 18  by the TSG Garage. Parking along the west side of Whitis Avenue will be impacted as the operation moves south to north on Whitis.
