Project Summary
Please be aware of ongoing changes to traffic flow, pedestrian routes, and parking around the Biological Laboratories (BIO) Building as restoration work is planned from June 15 and continuing through Summer 2028.
Project Location: The Biological Laboratories building (BIO) is located at 205 W 24th St, Austin, TX
Project Impacts
Pedestrian impact: Several sidewalks around BIO will be closed, including:
- The south side of West 24th Street
- The west side of University Avenue
The east side of Whitis Avenue
Pedestrians are encouraged to use the opposite side of the street: the north sidewalk of West 24th Street, the east sidewalk of University Avenue, and the west side of Whitis Avenue. The Turtle Pond will remain open.
There are no ADA impacts associated with this work.
Traffic impact: To accommodate construction activities, the roads surrounding BIO will be configured as a one-way loop:
- 24th Street – eastbound traffic only
- University Avenue – southbound traffic only
- Inner Campus Loop – westbound traffic only
- Whitis Avenue – northbound traffic only
Bicycle impact: Bike racks on the north and south sides of BIO will be removed. Alternative bike racks will be located on West 24th Street east of the guard shack. Bicyclists are encouraged to refer to the City of Austin Bike Map.
Parking Impact: D+/F spots, F15 spots, and two loading zones will be unavailable on the streets surrounding the BIO Building. Permitholders have been notified.
