Project Dates
Project Summary: Renovations are underway to the plaza and grounds between the George I. Sánchez Building (SZB) and the Perry-Castañeda Library (PCL). The project includes a new pavilion, an accessible walkway, additional seating areas, and enhanced landscaping.
Construction is scheduled from July 27 through Feb. 26, 2027. During this time, the pedestrian pathway through the plaza will be closed.
ADA/Pedestrian Impacts: The pedestrian pathway between SZB and PCL will be closed. The entrance on the southeast side of the George I. Sánchez Building (SZB) will remain open. Individuals requiring an accessible route should use the ADA accessible entrances on the west side of the building.
- Pedestrians coming from Brazos Garage should travel south on Brazos Street, west on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, and then north to the southwest accessible entrance of the SZB.
- Pedestrians coming from Speedway should travel west on East 21st Street and continue to the northwest accessible entrance of SZB.

Bicycle Impacts: The bike racks have been moved to the west side of SZB.
Signage will be installed at key locations to assist with wayfinding. Due to the fluid nature of construction, this information is subject to change, but we will do our best to provide timely communication if changes are necessary.
