Project Summary
To enhance the campus experience for all pedestrians and make it more accessible, the University is undertaking an improvement project on Inner Campus Drive. Once complete, the project will provide a reliable and accessible route to navigate the campus terrain. It will occur in four stages to ensure continuous traffic flow and uninterrupted pedestrian access.
Project Location: The project will occur on the road and sidewalk along Inner Campus Drive between Batts Hall (BAT), Garrison Hall (GAR), Waggener Hall (WAG), and the Graduate School of Business (GSB).
Major Anticipated Outcomes/Benefits of Completed Project: To enhance pedestrian traffic flow by improving an accessible intersection that connects multiple directional paths at a designated pedestrian crossing.
Project Impacts
Pedestrian Impacts: The first phase of the Inner Campus Drive work will redirect all pedestrian traffic to the south sidewalk. A protected traffic barrier at the southeast corner of the GSB will provide barrier-free pedestrian access along the north sidewalk and around the construction fencing.
Travel Impacts: Inner Campus Drive will remain open to traffic throughout the project and accessible to emergency vehicles.
Bicycle Impacts: Bicyclists traveling east to west along Inner Campus Drive will be impacted. Redirection signage will be posted. Bicyclists are encouraged to refer to the City of Austin Bike Map.
Parking Impacts: Special Accommodation spaces along 100 West Inner Campus Drive will be affected.
Those needing access to these spaces will be able to park in any University garage except Conference Center Garage (CCG) with the display of their permit and state-issued ADA placard or plate. Parking is also available in any other ADA or Special Accommodation space with a valid ADA placard or plate on a space-available basis.
For lot and garage locations, see https://parking.utexas.edu/maps/.
Signage will be installed at key locations to assist with wayfinding. Due to the fluid nature of construction, this information is subject to change, but we will do our best to provide timely communication if necessary.
