Project Summary
Improvements are being made around the Music Building and Recital Hall (MRH) and the Texas Science & Natural History Museum (TMM), starting Tuesday, June 17 through July 28. These enhancements involve upgrading the accessible pedestrian pathways leading to MRH and TMM, as well as enhancing the accessible parking spaces on Trinity Street.
Project Location: The Music Building and Recital Hall, located at 2406 Robert Dedman Drive, Austin, TX, and the Texas Science & Natural History Museum, located at 2400 Trinity St, Austin, TX, as well as Trinity Street in between those buildings.
Project Impacts
Music Recital Hall (MRH) Impacts: June 17 – July 9
Pedestrian impact: Wheelchair access will only be available to MRH at the building’s southwest entrance closest to Trinity Street through July 9.
Parking Impact: Some F20, D+F, and TMM-specific permit parking stalls on the east and west sides of Trinity Street will be closed. San Jacinto Garage is the nearest alternative for parking.
Texas Science and Natural History Museum (TMM) Impacts: June 17 – July 28
Pedestrian impact: All existing entrances at TMM will remain. The west sidewalk on Trinty Street directly in front of TMM will be closed. To access the wheelchair-accessible entrance, pedestrians arriving from San Jacinto Garage (SJG) must first cross to the east side of Trinity Street towards MRH where an accessible ramp will be available, head south along the sidewalk, and then cross back to the west side to access the southeast entrance of TMM.
Parking Impact: Some F20, D+F, and TMM-specific permit parking stalls on the east and west sides of Trinity Street will be closed. San Jacinto Garage is the nearest alternative for parking. Beginning on July 16 some parking spots will open intermittently.
Traffic impact: Trinity Street will always remain open to traffic, but the width of the lane will be reduced. There will be flaggers directing traffic and signage for wayfinding.
Bicycle impact: There will be no bike impacts. Bicyclists are encouraged to refer to the City of Austin Bike Map.
Signage will be installed at key locations to assist with wayfinding. Due to the fluid nature of construction, this information is subject to change, but we will do our best to provide timely communication if changes are necessary.
