Project Summary & Anticipated Outcomes
The project will result in a new memorial entrance, exhibit, and gathering space within the building to commemorate the U.S. Supreme Court case Sweatt v. Painter. The work includes architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire suppression, alarm systems, landscaping, accessibility features, and canopy.
Project Location: The project is located at Painter Hall, 103 W 24th Street, on the south side of the building at the corner of University Avenue and Inner Campus Circle.
Project Impacts
Pedestrian Impacts: During the first phase of work, expected to last through January 2025, pedestrians will use covered walkways at the south entrance near the courtyard for north-south access. Afterward, the walkway will be removed, and access at the south entrance will shift to an east-west direction. Building access will remain open at all entrances, including north, west, east, and south (near Inner Campus Circle).
Travel Impacts: No travel impacts are anticipated. Deliveries to the site may cause short delays, but vehicular travel will not have long-term impacts.
Bicycle Impacts: Bike racks onsite will be relocated outside of the construction zone but will remain onsite. Bicycle movement will not be impacted. Bicyclists are encouraged to refer to the City of Austin Bike Map.
Parking Impacts: Some parking stalls within the construction zone will be unavailable, but parking in the Painter Hall lot will remain accessible. Deliveries may cause brief delays, but there will be no long-term parking impacts in the lot.
