Project Description

Project Summary
Speedway is undergoing landscaping improvements, including upgraded irrigation systems, new plantings, and the addition of rock borders.

Project Location: This project will take place at landscaped edges of Speedway near the Norman Hackerman Building, Gary L. Thomas Energy Engineering Building, Welch Hall, Waggener Hall, and Jester Hall.

Major Anticipated Outcomes/Benefits of Completed Project: New installations will replace dead or dying plants with native plants. Rocky borders will be added to create a protective buffer zone between the road and the surrounding landscape, shielding it from pedestrian and vehicular traffic, table impacts, and other elements.

Project Impacts

Pedestrian Impacts: Partial areas on Speedway will be intermittently blocked throughout the project, but pedestrians will always have access to walk on Speedway and enter each building along the path.

Travel Impacts: There will be no travel impacts. Fencing will sequentially block half of a lane along Speedway at each location, but no lane will be closed entirely, so traffic will continue to flow as usual.

Bicycle Impacts: No impacts. Bicyclists are encouraged to refer to the City of Austin Bike Map.

Parking Impacts: No impacts.
