Project Summary

The East Campus Graduate Student Housing project is approximately 438,000 gross square feet comprised to provide 784 beds of affordable housing for graduate students, socialization and study spaces, outdoor amenities and green spaces, and a small retail venue.

Project Location: Corner of Comal Street and East 21st Street on the East Campus.

Project Impacts

Pedestrian Impacts: Pedestrian walkways along the East side of Comal Street will be impacted during construction.

Travel Impacts: 

  • Work will be performed on Comal Street between 21st Street and Manor Road, in which all lanes will be closed and barricaded from June 12, 2023 through June 17, 2023, pending weather conditions.
  • Work will be performed on Leona Street between 21st Street and 22nd Street, in which all lanes will be closed and barricaded on June 14, 2023, pending weather conditions.
  • Barricades will be up between 9:00 am – 4:00 pm Monday - Saturday during construction.
  • At 4:00 pm each day, any open trenches will be covered/plated and barricades will be removed to allow for 2-way traffic to resume.

Bicycle Impacts: Bike routes should not be impacted, however bicyclists using Leona Street itself may need to find alternative routes. Bicyclists may consider alternative routes using the City of Austin Bike Map.

Parking Impacts:

  • Street parking on 21st will be closed 24/7 per the posted signs.
This webpage will be an ongoing resource for information as work moves forward. Signage will be installed at key locations to assist with wayfinding. Due to the fluid nature of construction, this information is subject to change, but we will do our best to provide timely communication if changes are necessary.
